What is a dental exam?

A dental examination is a time when a dental professional performs a thorough examination of one’s mouth in order to detect any dental issues and this often includes taking X-rays. The dental professional will discuss any and all potential dental treatments with the patient that are required to improve their dental health. In doing so, will come up with a treatment plan. A professional teeth cleaning is often the last step, which removes any and all of the plaque and tartar buildup that may be existing on the teeth.

Visible signs that warrant a dental exam

The following is a list of three visible signs that can let someone know that they are currently in need of a professional dental exam.

1. Gums that are bleeding

Gums should not bleed, so if someone is experiencing bleeding gums, then they need to make an appointment for a dental examination as soon as possible.

2. Sores in the mouth

While having sores in the mouth is not that uncommon, if the sores last for more than a week, then this is a visible sign that a dental examination is needed.

3. A broken dental implant

When someone has one or more dental implants and one of them is broken, then a dental exam is necessary as a broken dental implant needs to be fixed by a dental professional as soon as possible.

Are you in need of a dental exam?

Are you currently in need of a dental exam because you are experiencing one or more of the above visible signs? If you are, then making an appointment as soon as possible is definitely recommended for your overall oral health. The sooner you see a dental professional to take care of any of your mouth issues, the sooner you can be back on track to good oral health. If you wait too long it is possible that you will lose one or more of your teeth and that is definitely the last thing you want to happen. If you do end up losing one of your teeth you will need to choose a tooth replacement option.
